Eldred Township is one of the smallest townships in Lycoming County and it is rich in history. The township was carved out of Hepburn Township in 1858 by order of the court and contained rolling hills with many fine farms. The 2000 census reported the population to be 2,178. The unincorporated village of Warrensville lies nestled on a narrow plain between two fertile hills and is a “cross-roads town” with roads leading from it in many directions. Traveling east is Loyalsockville, formally called Slabtown, southeast is Montoursville, formally called Teatown, west is the unincorporated village of Balls Mills in Hepburn Township and south is Loyalsock Township.
